Forests
(Posted on March 21, 2023)
A forest is a large area dominated by trees. But a forest isn’t made out from just trees. Every living thing that calls the forest its home is a part of the forest. There are also nonliving things that build up the forest. Forests come in many different forms. They represent 80% of the Earths plant biomass.
We have always been connected with forests and we influence each other in good and bad ways. They provide ecosystem services; they are a great tourist destination and they can even influence your health (in a good way).
But our activity can damage its ecosystem. To preserve our forests, we should avoid: extensive harvesting of the forest resources, agricultural expansion, development of railways, mining, commercial and social forestry, slash and burn agriculture.
It’s important to protect forests! That is why it is important to check which companies are we, by buying their products supporting. They are the ones doing the mining and the cutting but we are the ones who are even if unknowingly supporting them. We should try to plant more trees, for they are not only super useful providing shade in cities and preventing dirt erosion elsewhere, they are also very beautiful.
