Air pollution
(Posted on May 15, 2022)
We’ve all heard about air pollution. When talking about it, we usually picture a factory that has an enormous chimney and a giant cloud of smoke coming out of it.
And we would be correct to think of that as air pollution. But there is a lot more to air pollution.
Technically speaking, everything that changes the air biologically, physically, or chemically is air pollution.
These changes have very harmful consequences, the most known of which is global warming. There is also acid rain, the depletion of the ozone layer, and even some diseases that are caused by air pollution. All those things make life for plants, animals, fungi and humans more difficult. And, as for most of the problems today, we only have ourselves to blame. So, it is up to us to fix it!
In order to more easily determine what caused those problems, they have been divided into two groups. Primary and secondary pollutants.
Primary pollutants are pollutants, that pollute the air directly. A good example of a primary pollutant is sulphur dioxide, that comes from factories.
Secondary pollutants are pollutants that are formed from the intermingling and reaction of primary pollutants. A good example of a secondary pollutant is smog, which is formed by the intermingling of fog and smoke.
Unfortunately, a lot of air pollution sources can’t be stopped by just one person, by just one action. For instance, a lot of electric energy comes from fossil fuels, which cause air pollution.
A lot of clothes that you wear were made by factories, which are polluting the air. That is why we must, as they say, vote with our dollars.
Before you buy a product, check if it harms the atmosphere.
Instead of going to school by car, try going there by bus or even better by bike.
But most importantly, we must try to convince all people to protect our air. A lot of harm is also done by algaculture activities. They would be way safer, if algaculture activist would follow restrictions, that have been made to protect the environment. That is why we must try to convince everyone to protect our air.
Some good things have already been done. We already have control measures such as fabric filters, cyclone separators, gravitational setting chambers, electrostatic precipitators and scrubbers.
But we can and need to do more!
